Jack Grealish reveals Celtic hero he sent letters to as Man City star's 'favourite player' revisited

Manchester City star Jack Grealish revealed he wrote to a Celtic hero to tell him how much he loved him.

The entertaining winger is often in the spotlight in the English Premier League and made a huge £100million move to the Manchester giants in 2021 from boyhood club Aston Villa. Grealish has become a key player under boss Pep Guardiola since arriving on a six-year deal but footage from his time at Villa Park was unearthed by a certain Parkhead favourite.

While at Villa, Grealish told a documentary how he wrote to former Villa man Stan Petrov to show his admiration for the ex-Celtic midfielder. The 27-year-old revealed he was his favourite player while in the Midlands as the Bulgarian re-shared the old clip to his Instagram alongside a picture of a young Grealish.

In the Icons video, Grealish said: "He was actually my favourite player when he was at Villa.

"I remember one time I wrote him a big letter just telling him really how much I loved him. I don't know if it ever got to him, but I think I sent it to him at Bodymoor, Villa Park, hoping he'd get his hands on it and he'd reply!

"I was saying how much I loved him and stuff as a player, just telling him really that he's my favourite player. I used to love way he had his hair, he had highlights and stuff.

"When he came to Villa, I think he stood out a bit. He was a big signing as well when he signed. For me to go on and have the chance to train with him and stuff, it was a great feeling for me."
