Jack Grealish gives verdict on Arsenal's new anthem 'The Angel' after successful debut vs Leeds

Manchester City star Jack Grealish has given his verdict on Louis Dunford's new Arsenal anthem 'The Angel' after it was trialled for the first time at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The song, which went viral on Twitter a little over a fortnight ago, has become a bona fide anthem for the club with it celebrating the history of Islington and the area surrounding the ground.

Arsenal fans belted out the chorus before kick-off against Leeds United and Mikel Arteta said after the game that it gave the players an extra boost in the first-half: "Wow. It was really emotional, you know? I think there's a link with the way the team started because they were making comments in the dressing room, hearing the song with the spirit and the emotion that they did, it was unique. I have never experienced that here, it was the first time and I really enjoyed it and I hope that the fans enjoyed it too."

The Spaniard may have had a point too, as the Gunners raced to a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes thanks to a brace from Eddie Nketiah. A nervy second-half meant that they held onto a 2-1 win in the end, but the victory leaves them in a great position to qualify for next season's Champions League. In fact, three points in Thursday's North London derby would secure their place in the competition.

Reflecting on the song and its impact on Sunday, Dunford posted a message of thanks to the supporters and the club on Instagram: "I don’t think I’ll ever find the words to describe how I felt yesterday," he said. "I'll never forget what you lot have done for me and this song over the last couple of weeks. You made this possible. Whatever happens - the song belongs to you now. Thank you. North London Forever x."

His post had many replies, including by City star, Grealish, who said: "Class bro." The comment was accompanied with clapping emoji's, praising the song's success. Grealish was of course linked with a move to Arsenal before his £100million transfer to the Etihad Stadium. Even though the Gunners missed out on him, fans will be pleased to see him congratulating something that could go onto become incredibly important at the Emirates.
