Jack Butland raves about Rangers bar set by two icons as he reveals Andy Goram tribute had major impact

Jack Butland is determined to rise to the occasion and become a Rangers great just like Andy Goram and Allan McGregor.

The former England stopper is the man chosen by Michael Beale to succeed McGregor and knows that's no small task as the veteran steps aside after 500+ appearances across two spells. McGregor knows how it feels; he took the gloves from Stefan Klos with the shadow of the great Goram still hanging over the goalposts and went on to become a legend just like him.

And Butland says it's now his plan to make a name for himself just like the legendary shotstoppers that came before him. The former Manchester United and Crystal Palace keeper said: "That is the plan. The Goalie and Greegsy, two guys who have got an incredible history with the club that knew what Rangers was about.

"Watching a memorial video to Andy Goram the other day painted a picture of what he was like, what he meant to the club and what the club meant to him. That's what this club is all about. It's got a rich history of top goalkeepers and that's something I'll be looking to continue both on and off the pitch. Just trying to learn about the club, enjoy it, take it all in and hopefully follow in their footsteps.

"That's a big ask because of what they've done. But it's what we're trying to do and what we're capable of doing."
