Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase didn’t mince words following the team’s Week 4 loss against the Titans, telling reporters that he’s “always f---ing open.”
On Thursday, Chase revealed a hilarious interaction he had with head coach Zac Taylor in the aftermath of the blunt interview, via Jay Morrison of Pro Football Network.
The star wideout said Cincinnati’s head coach called him into his office for a meeting, causing Chase to think he was in trouble for his comments. But rather than scold Chase, Taylor dropped an F-bomb of his own—a rare occurrence—and surprisingly complimented the 23-year-old.
“Great f---ing interview,” Taylor said to Chase, who said it was the first time he’d heard his coach use an expletive.
Chase’s initial comments came directly after the 27–3 loss to Tennessee, during which he led the team with seven receptions on nine targets for 73 yards. He was held without a touchdown for the fourth consecutive game, as he’s still vying for his first score of the season.

Q: Do you feel like you have less time to get open or create space?
A: "No. I'm open. I'm always f***ing open. Excuse my profanity." pic.twitter.com/mD2HhdVk2T
While Chase couldn’t hide his frustrations after the offense was stifled in the Week 4 loss, he did manage to avoid facing any consequences from his coach, who, to his relief, showed him support in the matter.
