The Arizona Cardinals lost their final game of the season 38-13 to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. It was the final game of defensive lineman J.J. Watt, who announced he would retire at the conclusion of the season.
In his final NFL game, he was great.
Playing in 52 of a possible 62 defensive snaps, he had five tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss and a broken up pass.
He finished his final season with 12.5 sacks, leading the Cardinals.
Watt retires knowing he still can play football at a high level.
“I said I wanted to go out playing good ball and I’m playing good ball,” he said after the game. “I know I still can, I’m just choosing not to, that’s all.”
He finishes his career with 114.5 career sacks. He sacked 50 different quarterbacks in his career. His first sack Sunday was his first against the San Francisco 49ers.
He played in every NFL stadium and picked up sacks against all but the Chicago Bears sand Houston Texans.
He is a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame when he is eligible in five years.
