American rap artist J. Cole called off a concert just hours before showtime after a member of his touring crew lost his life in a highway crash on Thursday, 27 August. The No Role Modelz artist was originally scheduled to perform at the Golden 1 Center, but J. Cole fans in Sacramento discovered that the show had been abruptly cancelled.
The news came after a fatal accident involving a heavy semi-truck transporting equipment from Cole's prior concert in Seattle. The driver perished en route to the Northern California gig after the vehicle veered off Interstate 5 and rolled over in Yolo County early Thursday morning.
J Cole Cancels Golden 1 Center Concert
J. Cole and tour operator Live Nation jointly announced the cancellation. They released a formal statement addressing the fatal incident and the immediate suspension of the scheduled Sacramento appearance.
'Following the tragic passing of a member of the touring crew in a trucking accident this morning, J. Cole's performance at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento tonight, August 27, has been canceled,' the official announcement read.
They added a brief message of condolence to the public statement. 'Our thoughts are with the crew member's family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,' the artist and tour operator stated.
California Highway Patrol Confirms Fatal Truck Crash
The California Highway Patrol reported that the semi-truck drifted onto the right shoulder of southbound Interstate 5 shortly after 6.05 am. The driver reportedly tried to steer back onto the highway before losing control and completely rolling over.
Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the early morning accident. Emergency responders attended the crash site, and the driver was officially pronounced dead at the scene.
The Yolo County Coroner's Office subsequently identified the driver as Jarlath Parkinson, 66, of Jackson, South Carolina. Officials investigating the fatal crash stated they did not suspect drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident, as the investigations are still ongoing.
Parkinson had been operating the commercial vehicle along the interstate route. He was transporting a truck filled with concert gear from the prior tour stop in Seattle directly to Sacramento when the crash occurred.
Live Nation Addresses Sacramento Concert Ticket Refunds
The rapper is presently headlining The Fall-Off Tour, which was set to feature 73 shows throughout North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. The Sacramento performance was a planned part of this schedule.
Following the tragedy, Live Nation informed fans holding tickets for the Sacramento performance to reach out to Ticketmaster regarding refunds. It was not immediately clear whether the Sacramento show would be rescheduled.

The cancellation comes as the iconic rapper detailed an alleged physical fight he had with P Diddy in one of his well-known songs, Let Go My Hand.
