The Ivy Asia in Cardiff is finally set to welcome customers through its doors next month after the original launch date in the springtime was delayed. The long-awaited restaurant will open on September 20, next door to the current Ivy restaurant on The Hayes at St David's shopping centre in the city centre, with reservations going live from Wednesday, August 31.
It will cater for 166 guests for both indoor and terrace dining, and will be open seven days a week, offering everything from lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and weekend brunch. The eatery promises late-night cocktails and theatrical drinks alongside its dishes, and there will also be DJ performances to entertain diners.
Guests will be greeted by The Ivy Asia's signature green onyx flooring, as well as two large cherry blossom trees, artwork, Asian fabrics, colourful wallpapers and antiques. Alongside the main restaurant and bar, there is also a mezzanine level seating area and a sushi bar, where dishes will be prepared in front of customers. Dishes take inspiration from cuisines spanning the whole of Asia. A highlight includes an extensive sushi and sashimi selection, such as wagyu beef tataki, salmon sashimi, spiced yuzu and avocado salsa, and yellowtail three ways. Vegetarian and plant-based options will include avocado crispy tofu, with a lime and ginger dressing, and roasted aubergine miso and masago arare.
As for drinks, there will be sakes, wines, Champagnes and Jing speciality Asian teas. Cocktails include the Pineapple Sour, featuring 12-year-old whiskey, matcha, lemon, pineapple and a smoked coconut perfume, and the Shikou Spritz, comprising Beefeater Gin, rose, petal liqueur, aloe vera, soda and prosecco.
The restaurant will fill the current spots of the former Cath Kidston and Seasalt Cornwall shops and is expected to be a hit following the success of The Ivy which opened in 2019. The Ivy Cardiff first opened in November, 2019, and has proved popular with locals and celebrities alike, including John Barrowman and the cast of Netflix's Sex Education.
Matt Tomkins, general manager at The Ivy Asia, Cardiff, said: “We are pleased to confirm that The Ivy Asia’s newest restaurant will open on Tuesday, 20 September.
