Hospitals across fourteen US states have been ordered to immediately stop using two specific lots of intravenous saline after manufacturer Baxter International discovered fibreglass particles inside the sealed bags.
The voluntary nationwide recall, announced on 25 August 2026, covers 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection distributed in 500 mL VIAFLEX plastic containers. The product is a staple fluid used in emergency rooms, operating theatres and dialysis units nationwide.
