Earlier this week ITV Vera viewers were left devastated after Kenny Doughty announced his exit from the long-standing drama. The actor, who plays DS Aiden Healy, confirmed he would be leaving the show after eight years.
Following the announcement, Kenny's co-star Riley Jones has spoken out. The star, who has played DC Mark Edwards since the show began in 2011, issued a response to Kenny's emotional and lengthy social media statement. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
Commenting on Kenny's Instagram post, Riley wrote: "Where to even start? It's been an absolute pleasure working alongside you for all these years. After 35 films your energy, enthusiasm and sense of fun on set never wavered."

He added: "You're a true professional and have not only made me a better actor but a better person. Here's to your next chapter. Can't wait to see what you do next. Whatever it is I’m sure it'll be awesome!"
Replying to his friend and co-stars comment, Kenny said: "Thanks mate. Here's to new adventures buddy. And I'm so thankful for your friendship."
It comes after Kenny left fans of the drama "heartbroken" with a statement on social media earlier this week. Sharing a string of pictures alongside Brenda Blethyn, he wrote: "After eight years and 35 Vera films I've made the difficult decision of handing over DS Healy's badge. I can confirm I am leaving Vera."
The actor continued: "I want to thank everyone who's made this amazing time so joyous, ITV, Silverprint, all the brilliant cast and crew BUT of course my buddy and inspiration Brenda Blethyn. The perfect leading star who I owe so much to.
"I feel lucky to have you as a friend, you make me howl with laughter and have been a rock for me over the years. I can't thank you enough. Precious times."
Turning his attention to his fans, he added: "And finally the Vera fans: without you and your support I would never have made so many films. You really are the best fans in the world. Thank you so much for your loyalty and love for the show." You can read more here.
