Riley Jones has hinted that there could be even more big news to come from ITV regarding Vera, after the channel confirmed a 13th series for the hit drama last week.
A month after the final episode of series 12 aired and just a week on from star of the show Kenny Doughty announcing that he was quitting his role as DS Aden Healy, it was announced that Vera would be back for series 13. In the wake of Kenny's upsetting news, there had been some concern from fans over Vera's future, but they can now rest easy in the knowledge that DCI Stanhope will be back on the case once again.
And the even better news for fans of the long-running Sunday night favourite is that there is another episode already in the can, with the adaptation of Ann Cleeves' latest book, The Rising TIde, set to air later this year. The feature length tale will be Kenny''s final episode as Aiden, with it now also being revealed that Ibinabo Jack will also bow out as Jac, with the actress leaving the show to focus on theatre commitments.

One person who will definitely be back for Vera series 13 is North East actor Riley. Having played DC Mark Edwards so over a decade, Riley was talked up by some ITV viewers as worthy candidate for Vera's new sidekick. And, while that is still very much up in the air, especially with the return of David Leon as Joe Ashworth; Riley told his Twitter followers he couldn't wait to get cracking on the new run.
And, sharing news of Vera series 13, Riley also hinted that there could be further developments to come, as he write: "Here we go folks. The news you’ve all been waiting for! We’ll be back with series 13 of Vera. And that’s not the only thing coming back! Can’t wait to get started. Stay tuned for more."
Pushing for a Mark to be Vera's new sidekick, one fan responded: "Buzzing about all the news but had secretly been hoping Marc would get a promotion," with a second writing: "Absolutely great news, although I’m wondering how it will work between Vera & Joe because didn’t Joe have a promotion when he left?"
