It seems that the British public are obsessed with crime drama - especially if it involves a certain Vicky McClure.
From Line of Duty to the Bodyguard, the acting is phenomenal every time so it's no wonder that ITV's latest drama is set to be yet another hit.
However the six-part series is set to be a "returner" according to executive producer Jed Mercurio who thinks the show could be renewed for another season after airing only its first episode last night (January 23).
The latest drama, according to ITV turns the "spotlight on counter terrorism policing and the extraordinary work of the Metropolitan Police Bomb Disposal Squad" where death for them is just "a heartbeat away."
They continue: "When a terrorist campaign threatens the capital over the summer, the Expos are at the forefront of urgent efforts to find out who is behind the bombings before fatalities escalate."
Talking at an ITV press conference, Mercurio, who was also an executive producer for the Bodyguard and Line of Duty (LoD), said: "If this series goes down well with the audience, we'd love to do more. It's set up to be a returner.
"We know how much audiences love thrillers - they're a big part of people's TV experience now, and having another series of Trigger Point in the future would be great if we're lucky enough to get to that point", reports the Radio Times.
A familiar face to many is Vicky McClure who featured in the LoD series as Detective Inspector Kate Fleming alongside Greenock's Martin Compston.
With the AC-12 drama now having ended, she has moved on to another scary role - and this time she's involved in an ex-military bomb disposal operative (known as an 'Expo') and plays Lana Washington.
Creator Daniel Brierley added: "I couldn’t ask for a better Lana than Vicky and it's an honour to be given the chance to tell the exciting and unknown story of the brave Expo officers who risk their lives every day to keep us safe."
Trigger Point returns to STV and ITV at 9pm next Sunday (January 30).
