This Morning viewers say they 'switched off' after Martin Lewis made an appearance on the programme. But it wasn't because of the Money Saving Expert himself.
Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were back at the helm of the ITV daytime show as it returned to screens on Tuesday (January 10). They were joined by Martin, who appeared via video link, for his first appearance of the year on the show amid the ongoing cost of living crisis.
He was on hand to answer viewers' questions which included those wanting help with debts and mortgages. Martin's appearance on the show also came ahead of the return of his own programme, the Martin Lewis Money Show, airing on ITV on Tuesday night.
But after Martin's appearance on the show, Holly, 41, and Phillip, 60, headed live to Switzerland where fashion and travel writer Kat Farmer and wine expert Helen McGinn were enjoying being perched in a hot tub. They were seen drinking a variety of different wines and enjoying an array of snacks as they talked about the Swiss wine industry from Grindelwald.
Earlier when teasing their upcoming segment, Kat and Helen, who appeared on screen in bath robes and clutching glasses of fizz, Holly admitted to being jealous. "We are so lucky, it's so lovely," Helen said. "There's so much snow. We are in the beautiful Swiss resort of Grindelwald."
Kat then interjected: "This is not a green screen. This is our actual backdrop. We're going to show you everything you can do without strapping on a pair of skis". Helen also added: "And, as you can see, from the robes and the bubbles and there is a hot tub nearby; I think you know where this is going..."
Holly then replied: "I am so jealous right now, I can't even tell you," as Phillip commented: "I think the whole nation will be, especially those people who went skiing over Christmas and there wasn't any snow anywhere." And when the pair eventually appeared from the hot tub, Holly said: "I don't know what I'm most jealous about: the wine, the cheese, the hot tub."
But it wasn't just Helen and Kat who were away as Gok Wan has also swanned off to Mauritius to promote ITV's new competition that could see a lucky entrant bag a whopping £100,000.
However, the stark contrast of Martin Lewis' segment to that of Gok, Helen and Kat's had This Morning viewers flocking to social media to comment. @Cherylscribs tweeted: "So after Martin Lewis giving out cost of living advice, here's Gok in Mauritius and two on a luxury trip to the Alps. Have a word with yourselves #ThisMorning."
@janekleimunt fumed: "#ThisMorning what a p*ss take @thismorning don’t usually watch when the smug 2 are on; seriously Gok away long haul & another item in Alps! You r had Martin Lewis on about people struggling, you don’t think & need to get real! Switching off!"
And some even claimed Holly and Phillip appeared annoyed. @DavidMackaay said: "Holly and Phil sat there annoyed, not like you two can’t afford to jet off at any time." @Samanth22356123 added: "Holly & Phil looking pissed off they’re not there despite just returning from the worlds longest Christmas break! #ThisMorning."
