ITV This Morning viewers joke 'I'm done already' seconds into show as Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield return

This Morning viewers were left joking that they were 'done already' before the credits even properly rolled on the first show of the week. Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were back at the helm of the ITV daytime programme, fresh from hosting the final of Dancing on Ice on Sunday night (March 12).

The pair were rinkside as Nile Wilson, Joey Essex, and The Vivienne all went head-to-head in a bid to be crowned the ITV skating show's 2023 champion and lift the Dancing on Ice trophy. After all the finalists had performed their first dance, they were neck and neck on the leaderboard – having all secured perfect 40s.

But it was The Vivienne who was voted off before getting the chance to perform their version of Torvill and Dean's iconic Bolero with professional partner Colin Grafton. It was then left to retired Olympic gymnast Nile and his partner Olivia Smart and reality star Joey and his partner Vanessa Bauer to perform their own reimagining of the Olympic-winning routine.

And it was Nile and Olivia Smart who emerged victorious following the dazzling final, with Phillip revealing more than a million votes had been cast. After being announced as the winner, 27-year-old Nile said: "If Dancing On Ice has anything to say of entertainment, we’ve got 11 human beings all different shapes and sizes stood on this stage tonight with an allocated time to get good at something and we proved that we can do that.

"So what an inspirational show. If you put your mind to something and you work hard you can achieve anything you want." He also thanked everyone who voted for them and said he will be spending the night celebrating with the people who he "loves the most".

Following the end of the series, and the Dancing on Ice wrap party, Holly, 42, and Phillip, 60, were back on daytime TV as they returned to the This Morning studio for another jam-packed show. However, things got off to an unusual start as instead of the usual opening title, the presenting duo were seen on the sofa as they wrapped up last Thursday's show.

As they finished the last link of their last show of the week, Holly and Phillip got up off the sofa and walked across the studio where they came face-to-face with Doctor Who's Tardis and decided to do some reminiscing of their own. In the style of the BBC sci-fi series, the pair disappeared off with the iconic blue police box before a clip of the presenters played out from a number of years ago.

It appeared to show a nervous Holly as she made her debut on This Morning alongside Phillip 14 years ago, meanwhile, a miniature Holly and Phillip also appeared on the screen. "Oh wow, would you look at that? This must be our first show together back in 2009," the mini Holly exclaimed.

"Don't we look shiny and new," Phillip exclaimed before Holly said: "I do love reminiscing but I think we should be getting back." The pair eventually figured out how they were going to return to real-time and suddenly the usual opening sequence played out before Holly and Phillip appeared as normal in the studio and explained all.

Their opening skit was inspired by the fact that they had theoretical physicist Ronald Mallett on the show. He has dedicated his life to studying Einstein's theories on time travel and after a major breakthrough, he appeared live on the programme via video link from Connecticut to tell the hosts and viewers about the science behind his time machine.

But it appears not all This Morning viewers were convinced by the opening scenes. @gillyn4 laughed: "Oh Lord…I’m done already #ThisMorning." @LynzP01 wrote: "Wtf was the point of that #ThisMorning." @DannyDenay posted: "I was about to walk out the door and this has pulled me back in.. Who came up with that intro?? #ThisMorning."

Others, however, were keen to get involved in the conversation as to whether they'd want to travel back in time - or into the future - including @Chezzzzz who tweeted: "#thismorning I’d go back in time and make a note of all the winning lottery numbers so I wouldn’t have to worry about the cost of living crisis in 2023."
