ITV This Morning viewers fume at Scottish chef over 'weirdest take' on Burns Night dish

Scottish ITV This Morning viewers took to social media to complain as the show taught viewers how to make a traditional dish for Burns Night.

Hosts Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield were joined in the studio kitchen by Scottish cook Suzanne Mulholland. She demonstrated how to create her take on stovies, but fans weren't happy. Suzanne put together the one-pan dish and added corned beef and tomatoes.

Many said the dish resembled 'corned beef hash' while others were outraged that the chef had used tomatoes. Taking to Twitter to express their anger, @gillymacaroon said: "I’m not sure what she’s making but it definitely isn’t Stovies! #thismorning" while @bry444 added: "#ThisMorning That’s nae Stovies that’s corn beef hash".

@Walshcat69 tweeted: "@thismorning TOMATOES IN STOVIES ARE YOU F*****G KIDDING ME, Rabbie Burns will be turning in his bloody grave" and @justme48 commented: "@thismorning I've never in my 62 years seen stovies cooked like that in my life. I would call that corned beef hash, minus the tomatoes. Scottish stovies are made with sausages, onions, potatoes and dripping."

@DawnnieC73 wrote: "Wow @thismorning seriously stovies is not “corn beef hash” weirdest Scottish take on stovies ever!!! Tomatoes? worcestershire sauce?".

@dollynoocat commented: "I don't care what she says that's no stovies #ThisMorning" and @Poppyblew said: "Corned beef hash then. #ThisMorning".

Holly and Phil tucked into the dish in the spirit on Burns Night (ITV)

Burns Night is celebrated on January 25 every year, on poet Robert Burns' birthday. The evening honours his work - and despite dying in 1796, age 37, he is still thought to provide £200 million per year for the Scottish economy.

The night is also centred around traditional Scottish food, including Haggis, and drinks, including whisky. It also tends to feature a poetry recital, often kicked off by readings of Selkirk Grace and the Address To A Haggis.

A speech is usually given to honour Burns, along with a toast to his name - referred to as the Immortal Memory - and recitals of Address To The Lassies and The Reply From The Lassies.
