ITV This Morning studio in stitches at BGT star Abi Carter-Simpson's ukulele rendition

Abi Carter-Simpson had ITV judges in stitches at the weekend as she took to the stage and impressed Britain's Got Talent viewers with her Ukulele rendition about modern life, being hailed for her singing voice and hilarious wit.

And now the Essex teacher has appeared on This Morning - on Monday - as she gave another hilarious take on hosts Holly and Phil. Abi gave a nod to the pair's iconic appearance after a boozy night following the NTA celebrations, which famously saw them fronting their show a little worse for wear.

"Good morning, good morning, good morning from This Morning am I really singing on live TV?," she started.

"A show packed full of variety, a staple for society, Holly and Phil waking us up with a grin. Alison with her infectious laugh, Dermot O'Leary acting daft and travel experts telling us where they've been, oh! and whilst I'm here, can I play spin to win?"

In one hilarious one-liner, she continued: "Solving problems on the phone, tea towels on fire with John Terode and let's not forget that night after the NTAs," as we got a hilarious throwback snap to the hosting duo's hilarious hangover back in 2016.

Luckily Holly and Phil found the performance hilarious, as Phil praised the singer over her voice and the pair were left in awe at her natural talent as Abi admitted it was her first time performing live on TV.

Abi, 31, recalled her excitement for her performance: "It was amazing, it was filmed at the Palladium itself so I've always dreamt of those west end stages, so for me not only did I perform on Britain's Got Talent but one of the most amazing stages."

The primary teacher explained her inspiration comes from her idol comedian and lyricist Victoria Wood, admitting many people have compared her since her iconic performance.

"When I write songs I always want to connect with people as much as possible, I like relatable content and things we can all enjoy and discuss," she added talking of the buzz of everyone clapping along and her standing ovation.

When the Covid pandemic hit, she followed the path of teaching having never previously found the time to do so.

At the age of 18, she trained in musical theatre and went to drama school as she "always loved musicals" and moved to London with the dreams of "becoming a star."

After her jaw-dropping performance on Saturday, the judges shared their thoughts as she even managed to win Simon over, who confessed his hatred for the musical instrument as she came onto the stage.

Simon said: "I think they like you! You're very likeable, very sweet and the message was fun."

Bruno Tonioli added: "You manage with your writing to be funny and at the same time, saying very valid things.

"We like people that have such a range of talent. I think you could definitely be on that bracket."

Fans at home were quick to compare Abi's style of singing to Lucy Spraggan who appeared on X Factor in 2012.

Sharing their thoughts, one person wrote: "Abi reminds me of Lucy Spraggan love them both!"

Another penned: "She was good and reminded of Lucy Spraggan then they sang her song at the end."

While a third chimed: "Love her so different and funny reminds me of Lucy Spraggan that's a good thing lovely original song too. Well done."
