ITV This Morning's Holly Willoughby heartbroken by caller's tearful apology

Holly Willoughby was heartbroken by a caller's tearful apology on This Morning.

The 41-year-old fronted Wednesday's edition of ITV's flagship daytime programme with presenting partner, Phillip Schofield. They were joined by agony aunt, Deidre Sanders, for a viewer phone in feature.

Deidre was issuing advice to callers for how to say sorry in the aftermath of Will Smith's apology for slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars ceremony. However, the hosts were taken aback when a caller named Isla phoned in and said she wanted to apologise to her family for being disabled.

She said: "I was born disabled and I feel like I need to apologise to my dad, my sister, and all my family, but an aunt in particular. I feel like I need to do it now because my mum is no longer here and I couldn't say it to her."

Phil asked Isla to clarify her apology and she said she wanted to say sorry to her family "for having to put their lives on hold". Deidre advised Isla to pen a letter to her mum as this could help her comes to terms with how she has nothing to apologise for.

Holly was visibly emotional by the call - and assured Isla she had no need to say sorry since her family loved her. Viewers following the show on Twitter were similarly moved by the segment.

Karthic said: "The caller isla on @thismorning just made me cry. So sad. No one should apologise for being themselves. Love who you are . The family needs to support the person."

Alexstrasza added: "Isla breaks my heart. Sending my love to her"

Dannii commented : "Aww Isla, you were born disabled, I don't see how any of that is your fault"

Dave tweeted: "Isla.. my heart breaks for you. Never apologise for being disabled, your family won’t think you’re a bother, they love you."

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub
