ITV This Morning's Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield share gushing messages as they separate for summer

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield had a few parting words for each other as they hosted their last This Morning together for a number of weeks. In an unusual change to the show, the presenting duo took the reins on Friday (July 8). Holly and Phillip only usually host the ITV daytime programme from Monday to Thursday with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary giving viewers the Friday feels to end the week.

But because they were heading off on their summer break, the pair added an extra day to their working week. Holly, 41, and Phillip, 60, were back in the ITV studio after ditching the indoors for the This Morning forest during Thursday's show (July 7).

It didn't stop many viewers of the popular show, however, taking to social media to share their confusion at the changing line-up. @kouganray asked: "It's Friday, why are phil and holly on today?", as @EnfieldGarry wrote: "Phil and Holly on a Friday, what?"

Some gutted viewers then tweeted: "Where’s Alison and Dermot?! They bring the Friday mood," as @LuMarie44 said: "Where’s Dermot & Alison?? Very disappointed," and a third penned: "It is Friday? What are these two on for?"

The episode saw Holly and Phillip joined in the ITV studio by Stephen Mangan as he returned to the world of writing for his latest children’s book ‘The Fart That Changed The World’ while Gok Wan was in the kitchen to serve up a a Friday feast - aka a dim sum platter.

Following the show, the hosts both took to Instagram to share a final selfie before they separate, at least on-screen for the summer, before returning in September.

Posing for the snap outside in the sun, Phillip wrote: "To the best human. Thank you for an amazing series @hollywilloughby." He then added: "Happy summer break, see you in September," alongside a red heart emoji.

Mum-of-three Holly then reshared his post to her own millions of followers and added her own sweet message. "And you my darling... love you." She then added: "See you soon handsome pants!"

While they take the next several weeks off, This Morning will continue on with several different hosts are taking over the ITV show.

Friday favourites Alison and Dermot will, of course, be back and will kick off the summer in style by hosting the first two weeks from July 11th, and continuing to keep the summer sofa sizzling throughout the coming weeks will be a mix of on-screen partnerships.

The various duos will be made up of Josie Gibson, Vernon Kay, Rochelle Humes, Craig Doyle, Mollie King, and Andi Peters while Ruth Langsford will return to the show for the first time since last year for a week of episodes alongside Rylan Clark.
