This Morning viewers of a certain age were treated to a bit of nostalgia during the latest edition of the show. Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were back at the helm of the ITV daytime show on Wednesday (October 26) after the show was suddenly pulled off air on Tuesday.
The second show of the week was scrapped in place of rolling news coverage as Liz Truss officially resigned as Prime Minister after 49 days to make way for successor Rishi Sunak who met with King Charles and was formally invited to form a new government by the new monarch.
But it was back to normal for ITV today and Holly and Phillip kicked off the show by creating a special reunion for Phillip as they were joined by Andi Peters and Andy Crane, all of whom presented CBBC's The Broom Cupboard between 1985 and 1992.
Phillip, Andy, and Andi were reminiscing on their time on the children's TV show amid the BBC's 100-year celebrations. The broadcaster marked its centenary last week, on October 18, with lots of looking back over the years while Strictly Come Dancing also paid tribute with the celebrities dancing to iconic BBC theme tunes or songs used by BBC programming.
After showing a clip of all three stars during their time on the children's TV show with none other that Gordon the Gopher, Holly, who also started out in presenting on children's TV shows, remarked: "You are literally just messing about, all of you!"
To which the three guys laughed and agreed. "Essentially, just messing about," Andy said. He later revealed how many of the segments were 'made up', saying: "We just made it up, there was me and a producer at the time and they’d say, 'Well what shall we do today?'"
Phillip presented The Broom Cupboard, which was the nickname given to the very first CBBC studio where presenters sat up until 1994 when they moved into a proper studio, from 1985 until '87, followed by Andy Crane from '86 until '90 and Andi from '89 until '93.
Other famous faces who hosted the programme included Philippa Forrester and Toby Anstis, Zoe Ball and Jose D’Arby. And it certainly got This Morning viewers reminiscing about their own memories of the show.
@secN21 posted: "OMG @thismorning this brings back memories...I worked with #AndyCrane who was one of the then #Radio5 children's presenter on the programme Take 5 #ThisMorning." @UK_Mr_RJ commented: "Really enjoying @thismorning #BroomCupboard reunion. Thank-you for reminding me of my childhood #ThisMorning."
@Colabubble added: "Awwww, a lovely trip down memory lane watching #ThisMorning with all the old broom cupboard gang @andipeters #AndyCrane @Schofe & #GordonTheGopher (sadly no Ed today). Childhood memories."
Others weren't enjoying it as much. @lindaperkins121 said: "Turned over can’t watch the broom cupboard it’s going to be all about Philip Schofield laughing and being stupid #ThisMorning." @RyanJackMum wrote: "As everyone knows the best presenters from The Broom Cupboard are Simon Parkin and Andy Crane. #ThisMorning."
But when Gordon appeared to re-join his former co-stars, viewers were left with a demand. @Cherrieschapel said: "Petition to have Gordon the Gopher full time on #ThisMorning." @gffcontwitch tweeted: "Should have @GordonTheGopher on every day #ThisMorning." @MJ_JJ061215 wrote: "Shame Gordon the Gopher isn't the new host of #ThisMorning..." @FLady1980 added: "Gordon the Gopher for new presenter please #thismorning."
