ITV This Morning fans divided as Rylan Clark kicks off over energy price increase

Rylan Clark has hit back at people saying him and other celebrities would be unaffected by the constantly rising energy prices.

This Morning Ofgem confirmed that the energy price cap will increase from the current £1,971 to £3,549 from October 1. The current price cap was last adjusted in April this year, rising from £1,277 to £1,971 per year on average and Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis warned that Britain will face a dire winter as the prices continue to spiral.

Presenter Rylan was joined by Ruth Langsford as they hosted the ITV talk show. He became very passionate as he explained his stance on the situation.

The former X Factor star said: "I was just looking on Twitter and seeing what people are saying about this energy crisis. I should just say as well, and this is a very personal feeling but I'm going to say it.

"You get people sitting there going 'what do you know, you've got money, you're a TV presenter'. I'll just be honest with you, I've also got a mum, I've also got a brother, I've also got a family, yeah?"

He added: "I'm very lucky that I do my job and I have been working in this industry for 10 years now and I've been very clever with my money. But this is affecting everyone.

"This is going to affect every single person we know and it is all very relative and we are going to ask those questions. I just think it is absolutely disgusting what is going on, I really really do."

Fans on Twitter were split over his opinion. While some were quick to praise him, others had zero sympathy for him.

Fi said: "Go Rylan...talking sense, I like his passion and his presenting... #ThisMorning". Simon said: "Loving @Rylan on #ThisMorning speaking for us all and his passion. Get them told."

Lisa said: "At least Rylan had the balls to address the issue - it’s more than any of the others have ever done #thismorning."

Rem said: "#ThisMorning totally agree with you @Rylan its disgusting what's happening with the energy bills. A lot of people are going to suffer or even die this winter and its great like people like you are fighting on our side. Thank you and the show."

Meanwhile, others disagreed. Jackie said: "Rylan I get what you're saying and I really like you but you have the ability to help your brother Mum etc.. Most of us wouldn’t be able to help our families we can hardly cope ourselves. So you're not really in the same boat #ThisMorning".

Semih said: "Dear Rylan, you probably earn 10 times if not more than most people I know so excuse me for not having any sympathy for you in relation to the cost of living crisis. It has affected everyone but I’m sure you can afford to live a lot more comfortably than most #thismorning".
