This Morning bosses are reported to be "at a crossroads" as they try to decide whether to air a segment of the show which has been causing controversy.
Chiefs of the ITV how were forced to issue a statement on Friday after presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were wrongly accused of jumping the queue to see the Queen lying in state at Westminster Hall.
After they appeared on the BBC's livestream of the activity within the historical hall, many people assumed the stars had been fast-tracked in a special lane past the rest of the crowds due to their celebrity status.
This Morning issued a statement on Sunday which explained Holly, 41, and Phillip, 60, were in fact at Westminster Abbey to film a segment for the show, due to be be aired tomorrow (Tuesday).
But the pair have been trolled on Twitter by many angry social media users, while some viewers say they will boycott the daily magazine programme when it returns, leading to concerns amongst show management about what to do, as writes Wales Online.
An ITV source told the Mirror : "This Morning are at a crossroads over if they run Holly and Phil's segment from the abbey - there have been a lot of discussions about how to air the footage especially with the horrific backlash.
"Everyone feels for Holly and Phil as they were just doing their job as working media but the whole thing has turned into a Twitter storm - bosses are even unsure whether to run it or not."
The statement from This Morning, which was released on the show's Instagram page, said: "Hello everyone, we would like to clarify something. We asked Phillip and Holly to be part of a film for this Tuesday’s programme.
“They did not jump the queue, have VIP access or file past the Queen lying in state – but instead were there in a professional capacity as part of the world’s media to report on the event.”
Holly and Phillip have also also been defended by The Chase star Anne Hegerty. On her twitter page, she explained were filming a segment for This Morning not mourning in their own private time.
The 64-year-old wrote: "My understanding is that Holly and Phil weren't in a VIP line, they were in a press line and about to do a piece to camera."
