A 21-year-old music student from Nottingham vowed the celebrities on The Voice UK and got them all to turn around. Contestant Olivia Mason impressed the coaches with her singing and spoken word poetry.
Olivia, who lives with her mum in Nottingham, took to her blind audition on Saturday's episode (October 8) of popular the ITV show. With the combination of her vocals and spoken word poetry, she got Anne-Marie, Olly Murs, Will.i.am and Tom Jones to all turn their chairs around.
On the show, Olivia said: “I like to do a lot of spoken word. Spoken word is like poetry. It can be without music, with music - it’s whatever you want it to be really. It’s like my way of getting all my thoughts in my head that I need to get out on paper.

“The busking thing kind of like came about I was at uni, it’s the most amazing experience, it’s the best thing I’ve done for music, definitely. Music is my heart and writing is kind of my life so I just like to be able to get my voice out o a lot of people and hopefully inspire people.
“This blind audition is massive for me because the biggest thing i’ve ever done is perform on the street for a couple of people so this is very different. I’m just going to do me and give my truth and I hope they like it.”
Olivia’s mum, Alison, added: “When Olivia walks out on stage today I will have mixed emotions of a bit of fear maybe, and excitement, love and pride.”
Olivia performed Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack, which involved her own spoken word poetry. At the end of her performance the 21-year-old said: “Spoken word is just that unspoken hurt, I’m just a Nottingham Girl.”
Tom Jones said: “What you do is really different and that’s really refreshing. The combination of the whole thing that’s what I liked. I’d love it if you came with me, I think it would be very interesting.
Annie- Marie added: “You rap, you do spoken word, you sing, you’re lovely. I can feel you’re happiness coming out of you. I’d love you to be on my team, I’d love to work with you.
Voice coach Will.i.am said: “What I adored the most out of your performance is how you made a tag at the end. You stopped 2 seconds into your time so you have to end with poetry. To me I was like 'you know what, Olivia, I would like her on team'. He added: “Your an architect, you know exactly how to build, how can I help your technique - that’s what I'd like for you.”
Singer Olly Murs added: “I don’t think I’ve seen anyone like you before. The way that you do it, I would just love the opportunity to work with someone that I think could go all the way and win this competition and be someone that this show could be really proud of.
“I think it's really really amazing that you can do both - what that big V says behind you in different forms.” After the four coaches tried to persuade Oliva to choose them - she chose team Anne-Marie for ‘female empowerment' as she moved to the next stage of the competition.
