Brand new real-life drama from the producers behind The Pembrokeshire Murders and Line of Duty, The Hunt For Raoul Moat, begins on ITV on Sunday, April 16.
The three-part drama covers Britain's biggest manhunt and looks behind the headlines at how the incident affected the people involved. The manhunt, which happened back in 2010, saw Moat go on the run for more than a week after shooting three people in 24 hours.
Moat shot his ex-partner Samantha Stobbart and her new boyfriend Christopher Brown before shooting PC David Rathband and heading on the run. The TV drama about the series of events has a huge cast and we've listed who's in it below, with a bit more detail about the main players. Who's in the cast of The Hunt For Raoul Moat?
Lee Ingleby - Neil Adamson
Lee is a familiar face on British telly having starred in Inspector George Gently, The A Word and Innocent. You may also recognise him as Nick, husband of DCI Roz Huntley (Thandie Newton), in series four of Line of Duty. Lee became a firm TV favourite as Inspector George Gently's sergeant, Bacchus.
In The Hunt for Raoul Moat he plays Neil Adamson, a senior Northumbria Police officer leading the race against time to apprehend Moat. Ingleby had this to say about the dramatisation of the real-life story: "Most people think they know what happened in this story. But they don’t. This drama shows you what actually happened. We see the news reports and then the image of Moat on a river bank with a shotgun to his temple. But we don’t see what led to that moment, who he affected, who he killed, who he ruined. That’s why it’s important to tell this story."
Matt Stokoe - Raoul Moat
34-year-old Stokoe takes the titular role of Moat and you'll recognise him from Sky's Jamestown, Bodyguard, Netflix's Cursed and BBC's reboot of The Musketeers.
Vineeta Rishi - Nisha Roberts
Another who's also appeared on Line of Duty, Vineeta was Rupul in series four, but is perhaps best known as Lucky in Holby City and Dr Jas in Doctors. Vineeta has also been in Three Girls, Murdered By My Father, Vera and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw. Her character is based on two or three different police officers from real life, the actress revealed in interview.
Sonya Cassidy - Dianne Barnwell
Humans, Ripper Street and The Man Who Fell to Earth star Sonya is reporter Diane Barnwell. Sonya explains her character's role in the drama: "In the drama Diane is a crime reporter at the Newcastle Chronicle newspaper. Diane is representative of a member of the press who is not looking for the cheap, quick headline. Someone who was part of this community doing what she could to inform and help in whatever way possible. I enjoyed playing someone from the northeast and invested in that area. I really admired the character’s integrity and what the Newcastle Chronicle newspaper was doing at a time when the national press would just sweep into a story like this and sweep out again.”
Sally Messham - Sam Stobbart
The ex of Moat, who he shoots and injures - as well as killing her new partner Chris Brown - Sam Stobbart is played by actress Sally Messham, who has recently been in Oscar-nominated film Aftersun opposite Paul Mescal. Sally has also been in Sherwood, Doc Martin and Allied.
