ITV The Chase's Mark Labbett jokes as he instantly recognises contestant

A contestant on The Chase revealed that he had already been quizzed by Mark Labbett earlier in his life.

Bradley Walsh welcomed four new players to the ITV quiz show. Neil, Sheila, Kate and Joe all tested their general knowledge as they went head to head with Mark 'The Beast' Labbett with hopes of going home richer.

Neil, a 39-year-old HR officer, admitted that he had a past with the quizmaster. It was revealed when Bradley asked which of the chaser's Neil would prefer to take on.

The player replied: "Not sure I would want to take him on Brad, but Mark used to be one of my teachers back in school. He was one of my maths teachers so it would be interesting to see who teaches who a lesson."

Bradley replied: "He did not! Was he really? Wow." With that, The Beast walked out of the doors to face his former pupil turned contestant. Neil welcomed him as he said: "Good afternoon Sir!"

Mark joked: "Well are you here to quiz or to hand in that piece of homework you still owe me from 18 years ago?" Bradley couldn't help but laugh as he went on to ask what kind of pupil Neil was. Mark replied: "Bright... but not super bright because I can't remember him that well."

Neil played a poor cash builder round, securing only three correct answers. However, he took the middle offer of £3,000 and answered five of five questions correctly, securing a place in the final round to face his former teacher once more. Mark said: "I used to do the odd quiz when I was teaching. I might have regretted it now."

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and the ITV Hub
