ITV The Chase contestant's remark sparks fans demanding they leave show

The Chase fans demanded a contestant leave the show after a remark on today's episode.

Bradley Walsh welcomed four new players on Wednesday's edition of the ITV gameshow.

Caroline, Matthew, Lizzy and Graham were testing their wits against Mark Labbett in a bid to win a cash prize.

Caroline was up in seat one and the gardener from Nottingham was hoping to use any winnings from today's show to fund a bigger engine for her speedboat.

The 57-year-old accumulated £6,000 in an impressive cash-builder, but confused fans in the head-to-head after the Beast offered her the chance to take a step closer for £600.

She said: "I was gonna go low, but that is too low so I'll stick with the £6,000"

Host Bradley Walsh questioned why Caroline would have gone low - and viewers following the show on Twitter were similarly baffled by the tactic.

Lois posted: "Omg Caroline you need to go for that attitude!"

Sarah said: "First seat and she was gonna go low? That would have set the tone #thechase glad she didn’t"

Elizabeth added: "Why would you go low if you got £6k"

Greg said: "Was planning on going low. How sad, never mind"

Caroline failed to navigate her way past The Beast, who issued a cutting verdict after she left the show.

He said: "No great loss. She wanted to go low. Next."

Mark was in thrilling form as only Matthew managed to navigate his way past The Beast to compete in the Final Chase for £3,000.

The 29-year-old built up 12 steps, but left empty-handed after he was caught with 40 seconds remaining.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and ITV Hub
