ITV Tenable viewers' frustration after team's incorrect Bristol answer

A group of Tenable contestants have made viewers watching along at home facepalm after incorrectly guessing Bristol as an answer to a question. The Ecky Thumpers, who hail from up north, had their knowledge tested by Harry Potter star Warwick Davis in an episode which aired on Wednesday afternoon (May 11).

For those who are not familiar with the concept of Tenable, it's an ITV daytime television game show which sees teams of five contestants attempt to complete a top 10 list of answers based on various general knowledge topics. It is hosted interchangeably by Warwick Davis and Sally Lindsay.

After choosing to answer a question about UK cities, the Ecky Thumpers were given the task of naming the 10 English cities that come between Chichester and Leicester alphabetically. Basically, they had to name any English cities that started with a C (as long as they came after Chichester alphabetically), D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, and L (again, as long as the letter came before Leicester alphabetically).

The team, composed of team captain Sam, and members Samantha, Sophie, Tom, and Phyll, all took it in turns to put forward their guesses. As with a lot of game shows, viewers at home were left shouting at their screens, as the pressure in the studio took its toll on The Ecky Thumpers.

After her team mates correctly guessed Derby and and Leeds, Samantha stepped up to hazard a guess. In a move she instantly regretted, Samantha said: "Umm, Sheffield. Oh no!"

Sheffield, of course, does not come between Chicester and Leicester alphabetically, so Samantha was kicked off her team, and sent into The Vortex. After Samantha was booted off, and a few more team mates guessed city names correctly, it was Tom's turn.

Tom said: "I'm going to try Bristol."

"Taking you one step closer to a perfect ten, and £12,000, is Bristol tenable?" Warwick said. "Oh that's untenable, Bristol begins with a B and is before Chichester, which begins with a C. We have to say goodbye to you." The contestant was left shaking his head as he realised his mistake.

Watching along at home, frustrated Twitter users appeared to know better than The Ecky Thumpers, and shared their thoughts on the team's guesses with their followers. With some facepalm emojis, Chrisgeena wrote: "Wow did these guys fail their alphabet?"

Christian said: "He actually thought the letter B came before C…. At least Sheffield girl realised what she’d done." Meanwhile, Jean commented: "People going on Tenable need to learn the list of cities as it’s asked a lot."

Some suspected they had misread the question and were naming places that are located between the cities geographically rather than alphabetically. One Twitter user wrote: "This was an easy question when you realise they don't mean between them on the map."

After Tom left his team, Phyll correctly guessed Durham, whilst Sophie put forward the untenable answer of Ipswich - which is not a city. Phyll then put Coventry and Gloucester on the board, but the team sadly missed out on the prize fund when she suggested Greater London - the answer was actually Hereford.
