ITV Soccer Aid viewers rush to comment on Liam Payne's accent as he's interviewed after famous Will Smith Oscars chat

Fans tuning in to watch the annual Soccer Aid charity match for UNICEF were eagerly anticipating Liam Payne's pre-match interview. Liam, who is captain of England in the England vs World XI game on ITV, were wondering what his accent would be after his famous chat from the Oscars earler this year.

Good Morning Britain viewers were left baffled when they tuned into the show and heard the One Direction heart-throb from Wolverhampton speaking with different accents with ITV news programme's North America correspondent Noel Phillips. Broadcasting live from the red carpet of Elton John's Oscars party, Liam was asked about the incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock which overshadowed the 94th Acadamy Awards and hit headlines.

The Oscars were thrown into chaos after Will stormed the stage and hit Rock in the face after the comedian made a comment about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's short hair. Pop star Liam said: "I believe whatever he felt that he did he had the right to do and I also felt there were three losers in one fight. He didn't know, being Chris Rock, he didn't do what he had to do, being Will Smith, and she did nothing, being Jada, and it's a very sad thing."

And he continued: "But there was a powerful moment for me to watch one of the world's best emoters, ever, speak from the heart. I'd rather take the beauty out the situation than take the pain. But I had to leave my chair, I'll be honest with you.

"It cut me really deep. I don't get deep about these things. I'm a big movie fan, I'll be honest with you and out of a horrible moment there was a little bit of beauty in what came on and I'm sure everyone's very apologetic about what happened.

Liam spoke with his Wolverhampton accent (ITV)

"It shouldn't have happened. But ask yourself what would you do in that situation. I don't know how we'd all react. We're all very human, right?" @M4DELA1NE said. @wearefreeradio commented: "Ermmm @LiamPayne, thought you were from #Wolverhampton??? What’s happened?!" And @conormckenna101 wrote: "Liam Payne’s new accent has me more shocked than the Will Smith incident tbh #gmb."

Liam later explained to his followers what had happened., saying: "It was quite funny - I had asked Good Morning Britain, the presenter, I said 'Please don't ask me too much because I've had a lot to drink and I'm underly educated about the Oscars.' I said 'Please don't ask me too much, and the very first question the man asked me was 'What do you think about Will Smith?'.

And he said: "I actually read back on what I said and I stand by what I said, but I'm just sorry it came out in so many accents." Liam explained: "I'll tell you the truth. I was staying in a house with two German people, three people from Texas, one person from Liverpool and me. That's what came out so what can I say? But it was funny wasn't it?"

And as he took to the pitch at Soccer Aid viewers noticed that Liam's accent was 'normal.' @georgiaas00 joked: "Why’s Liam Payne all of a sudden got his English accent back now he’s on Soccer Aid ahahahaha."

@officialdermo said: "Good to hear Liam Payne has rediscovered his accent again." @corinisboring tweeted: "Liam Payne lost his Dutch accent quickly." @crozzaC1 observed: "Liam Payne’s accents back to normal then." And @hard_times_la said: "Liam Payne doing his regular voice for Soccer Aid. Bold choice."
