ITV scrap Jeremy Clarkson's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire gig after Meghan Markle row

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire will no longer be presented by Jeremy Clarkson after one final season, ITV bosses confirmed.

It will be his last series as show host following the backlash from Jeremy's controversial comments about Meghan Markle. ITV boss Carolyn McCall has confirmed the upcoming forth season of the popular quiz show, which is now currently in production, will be curtains for Jeremy, according to reports by The Mirror.

"We have a contract. We’re contracted to this [season], so we will do that," said McCall. "And then we have no future commitments."

The Grand Tour presenter found himself in hot water due to huge backlash over his column in The Sun in which he said the Duchess of Sussex should be forced to parade the streets naked with "lumps of excrement thrown at her".

McCall confirmed the decision to axe Clarkson as the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in an interview as she was being honoured as Variety's International Media Woman of the Year and discussed the broadcaster's "quick response" to the 62-year-old's column.

She said: "There was no dissent internally. We came out much quicker than anybody else, Amazon included. We just came out said, ‘Yes, we do not endorse a single word that he said on that.

"And there’s no place for that on ITV.’ So we came out very quickly and just said, you know, that wasn’t on ITV. But we don’t endorse that in any way. And there’s no place for that on ITV."

The highly controversial column is currently being investigated by the British media regulator IPSO under its code of practice.
