VEra fans are now desperately seeking assurances from ITV that the hit drama isn't coming to an end, after a post from one of its ma8in stars, Kenny Doughty, hinted that either he has left the show or, even worse, that Vera is no more.
As soon as credits rolled on series 12 finale The Darkest Evening, avid viewers of Vera, many of whom have been tuning into every episode for the last 12 years, were left wondering when it would be back on screen, particularly given what happened last year when series 11 was cut off on its prime by ITV to make way for two other shows, with fans having to wait nearly a full year to see the two remaining parts.
Vera lead actress Brenda Blethyn had some good news for devotees of all things DCI Stanhope before the finale had even aired, by revealing that another episode - THe RIsing TIde - was already in the can. However now, completely out of the blue, there is concern that that could be the final chapter for her famous on-screen alias.
And fans' worry that Vera's murder mystery solving days could be over were sparked when Kenny, who has been playing opposite Brenda as DS Aiden Healy for the last eight years, took to Instagram for the first time in a while to post a selection of photos from the Vera set.
Kenny captioned the pictures: "Thank you for the memories,' but offered no further explanation on what that meant for his future on the show ior for the long-running drama itself.
After ITV told ChronicleLive for a comment they had 'no news at present.' Kenny has now also shared the post on his Twitter timeline,. with his followers quick to react and asking him what he was referring to. One responded: "You can't just leave a tweet like that, are you leaving or has Vera been axed ????"
Equally unnerved by what was written, a second commented: "Whatever this means, I think it’s going to make me sad"
