Denise Welch has made another controversial comment about the monarchy ahead of King Charles' Coronation at Westminster Abbey this weekend.
The Loose Women panelist declared that she won't be pledging allegiance to King Charles III during the monarch’s upcoming Coronation on May 6.
It comes as the public have been invited to ‘cry out and swear allegiance’ in a chorus of millions to the 74-year-old King on Saturday in a historical first that the public is being encouraged to actively join in on the landmark event.
Denise was asked if she’d be joining in and replied: "What do you think? Listen, I’ve got nothing against the Royal family.
"However, of late, I am pledging allegiance, if any, to Harry and Meghan. Because of that, I won’t be pledging my allegiance. I don’t even know what you’re pledging for.
"I am loyal and would pledge my allegiance to my family, and that’s all. I think it’s very outdated. I’m just not a fan of what’s going on at the moment… I wish them all the best in their king and queen-ness."
Co-star Ruth Langsford meanwhile had taken a poll of the studio audience to gather their opinions on the upcoming Coronation, with only one person putting their hand up to say they’ll be pledging allegiance.
Gloria Hunniford pointed out that the public is "not being made to do anything", instead being invited to take part, and made a point that she believes it's not too far off from singing the National Anthem.
She added: "So you’re singing out the allegiance in any fact," adding that it will likely mainly be "older people" who choose to do so this weekend.
"Personally, I will be watching the coronation, I’m really looking forward to it,’ she said. ‘I won’t necessarily make a pledge, but I can see lots of people [doing so]."
