The Royal Variety came under fire over a "painful" moment in tonight's show.
The world's longest running entertainment show returned to ITV tonight. Lee Mack hosted a star-studded evening at the Royal Albert Hall, which featured performances from the world of theatre, music and comedy.
The event was recorded a number of weeks ago as the Southport comedian joked the audience did not know yet how England had performed in the World Cup. Lee proceeded to record a series of statements which covered all possible outcomes for England in the tournament.

Lee later introduced Frank Skinner, David Baddiel and the Lightning Seeds onto the stage to perform the new Christmas edition of Three Lions (It's Coming Home for Christmas). The lyrics of the 1996 classic have been amended to reference the Lionesses triumph after the England women's national football team won the UEFA Championship this year.
The song also contains hopeful references to the men's side performance in the World Cup. However, fans on Twitter said the performance still felt too soon as the men's team crashed out at the quarter final stage after they were defeated 2-1 by France.
@Goontownrats said: "Well as a football fan having it paraded on front of us England's failing in Qatar by singing it's coming home was painful. What on earth were they thinking"
Linda posted: "it’s not coming home so should’ve been left on the cutting room floor"
Sacha commented: "Baddiel and skinner , it’s coming home Christmas song Why ???"
Cheryl tweeted: "Now they’re singing about footy coming home a week after we crashed out of World Cup"
