JADOOMI is the value play against favourite Mutasaabeq in the William Hill Celebration Mile (3.35) at Goodwood this afternoon.
The son of Holy Roman Emperor evidently isn’t an easy horse to get to the track – now in the second half of his four-year-old campaign, Jadoomi has had just seven starts.
But there’s no doubt my selection, trained in tandem by Simon Crisford and son Ed, has more than his fair share of ability.
From five attempts as a juvenile, Jadoomi scored twice, including when landing a big pot at Longchamp in October 2020, and also ran third in Saint-Cloud’s Criterium International.
Limited to just one outing at three, Jadoomi returned from nine months off – he was gelded in the interim – to record a personal best with a Listed success at Clairefontaine at the end of last month.
There is still the scope for further progress as Jadoomi takes in this Group 2 test, and the booking of William Buick shows Crisford & Son mean business.
KORKER is fancied to pop up in the Listed William Hill Beverley Bullet Stakes (2.40) at Beverley today.
The Karl Burke-trained three-year-old looked destined for a bright future when landing a five-furlong handicap at York in May – but things haven’t gone to plan since.
Korker blew the start and lost all chance when 11 th in Royal Ascot ’s Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap next time.
And he again made a sluggish beginning when third to Royal Aclaim and Mondammej in the Listed City Walls Stakes back on the Knavesmire last time.
Dandy Man’s son is well capable of a starring role at this level if he can get off on terms and, if remedial stalls drills work the oracle, Korker can lay it down to title-holder Tis Marvellous .
Korker’s jockey Ben Curtis also has strong claims of landing Beverley’s opening Joe Rowntree Memorial Handicap (1.30) aboard MAJESTIC .
A step forward on each start saw the gelded son of Conduit get off the mark at his fifth attempt with a five-and-a-half-length supremacy in a novice stakes at Pontefract 13 days ago.
That win came over a mile but the step back to a stiff seven furlongs is unlikely to prove a problem for the Mick Channon four-year-old, who looks well treated on a British Horseracing Authority mark of 82 for his handicap debut.
Curtis rides favourite Wait To Excel in the William Hill Silver Cup Handicap (2.05), but preference is for KITSUNE POWER .
From five attempts in the handicap sphere this season, the King Power Racing-owned three-year-old has finished out of the first two just once, when a 50-1 shot for the Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot.
Kitsune Power didn’t get the rub of the green when second to Ajero at Glorious Goodwood most recently but has more to offer as he bids to overcome a 4lb rise in the weights.
On Goodwood’s Celebration Mile undercard, HOO YA MAL should pocket the Group 3 William Hill March Stakes (3.00) en route to a crack at the St Leger and the Melbourne Cup.
The 150-1 Derby silver medallist underlined his quality with a second to New London in the Group 3 Gordon Stakes on the South Downs last month, and a reproduction of either effort will make William Buick’s mount very hard to beat.
The William Hill Handicap (2.25) presents a decent opportunity for ORBAAN to continue his good run of form.
Jason Watson rode David O’Meara’s stable stalwart to end a long losing run in the Golden Mile at Glorious Goodwood before Orbaan followed up at Ascot’s Shergar Cup meeting.
The son of Invincible Spirit’s luck ran out with a troubled passage when fourth at York last time, but Orbaan’s BHA figure of 99 is still 1lb beneath his highest winning rating.
Korker’s stablemate BRIGHT DIAMOND got her career off to the perfect start at Newmarket three weeks ago and warrants the step up in class for the Group 3 William Hill Prestige Stakes.
At Newmarket, GREAT AMBASSADOR can give Saffie Osborne a first Listed victory by beating nine rivals for the Jenningsbet Hopeful Stakes (3.15).
