ITV pause Love Island filming as medics rush to villa on first night of new series

The new series of Love Island got off to a dramatic start, when filming was temporarily paused and paramedics called into the villa, as contestant Catherine Agbaje became unwell.

It is said that the Irish real estate agent had a 'funny turn',' with her ill health put down to "heat, nerves and not eating enough", while a source claims that production was called to a brief halt as her welfare "was the priority."

A source told The Mirror: "Catherine was seen instantly by one of the 24 hour medics which resulted in a short pause in filming, once the medic was happy with her temperature she was fine to continue with the rest of filming."

Catherine has been getting a lot of airtime on the series so far, with Love Island viewers choosing her to be paired up with Andre Furtado. However, a cat was definitely thrown among the pigeons at the end of Monday's new series launch, when the villa welcomed its first bombshell, Zachariah Noble

He was told by host Maya Jama that he had 24 hours to pick a girl to 'steal' from one of the other boys and, in the final moments of Tuesday's second episode, ITV2 viewers saw him choose Catherine.

ITV celebrated the ratings for this summer's Love Island launch, with Monday night's show attracting an average of 1.7m viewers across all devices (including viewing on ITVX), which was the biggest digital audience outside of sport since the last series of Love Island earlier this year. It had a combined peak audience of 1.9m viewers.
