Dr Amir Khan has shared an unexpected tip to stay cool amid the July heatwave.
Scorching conditions have arrived in the UK as temperatures could reach highs of 33C. Merseyside is basking in sunshine today and the region has been put under a Level 3 health alert by the Met Office.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, David Oliver, said: "The warm weather over much of England and Wales could last for much of next week. In the short term, many can expect temperatures in the mid to high 20s Celsius over the weekend, and then in the low 30s Celsius during the start of next week. Much of next week will remain warm for the time of year as well as dry and sunny for many areas."

Dr Agostinho Sousa, head of extreme events and health protection at UKHSA, added: "We want everyone to enjoy the hot weather when it arrives, but also to check in on their vulnerable family, friends and neighbours to make sure they are prepared for the warm conditions ahead.
"High temperatures are predicted for a prolonged period, so make sure to follow our simple health advice to beat the heat, such as covering windows exposed to direct sunlight and making sure that fridges, freezers and fans are working properly."
The heatwave was a topic of discussion on today's edition of Lorraine. Carol Vorderman hosted the show and was joined by Dr Amir Khan who shared tips to help people struggling in the hot conditions.
The doctor said people may be tempted to go for a cold shower or cool drink to bring down their temperatures, but he explained they should actually do the direct opposite. He added: "Warm showers and hot drinks are better for you in the heat because hot showers will force your blood vessels to dilate and blood circulation to the surface of the skin.
"That will help release heat from the blood as it evaporates out." The doctor also advised people to put an icepack or ice cubes in front of a fan to spread cool air around the room.
Carol was in hysterics as he also said people could use a cooling dog mat. He said: "They put gels inside and you can put them in the fridge and you can use them as pillows."
