ITV Loose Women's Carol McGiffin causes co-stars to gasp with awkward friendship comment

Carol McGiffin didn't hide her feelings as she appeared live on the Loose Women panel. The TV star was back on the ITV lunchtime show alongside Kaye Adams, Brenda Edwards, and Nadia Sawalha on Thursday (October 6).

The latest edition of the programme saw model and longstanding global ambassador for Estee Lauder’s Breast Cancer Campaign Elizabeth Hurley join the panelists for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Elizabeth discussed the importance of people being breast aware and self-checking, ultimately saving lives through early detection. "During the pandemic, through our breast cancer campaign we did an Instagram post telling people about the importance of self-checking," she explained.

"And two friends of mine had seen my post, both in their forties, and they both checked themselves for the first time and both found lumps. Both went to the doctor, they were both diagnosed with cancer. But they both found it really early. They would never have checked, had they not seen that post. The value of social media can really be put to good."

The panel were then joined by Addie Mitchell, Clinical Nurse Specialist at Breast Cancer Now, who led the Loose Women panellists through a live self-check demonstration with Nadia.

But prior to the majorly important topic being discussed on the show, the Loose Women panel took on some other topics, including asking: "How can you tell an acquaintance from a friend?"

Nadia was clearly surprised (ITV)

As Carol shared her thoughts, Nadia found her self stepping in to clarify: "Are we not your friends?" To which Carol replied: "Well, I wouldn't call you all actual friends." The response drew gasps from her co-stars before Kaye told her: " We've known you for 20 years!"

But Carol argued: "I know but I don't call you every day." She then added: "If we stopped working together would we be friends, probably not-I'm being honest." Kaye looked slightly bruised from the comment and turned to Carol and said: "No, I don't agree."

And Carol wasn't on her own as she admitted to seeing her colleagues as her "acquaintances" rather than as her friends.
