Gimme, gimme, gimme... a new West End Star!
ITV is set to reboot its musical theatre talent search for two actors to take on lead roles in the global smash hit and feel-good musical MAMMA MIA!
Producers Thames and Littlestar, have been commissioned by ITV for the exciting new series of Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream — with young actors being offered a career defining opportunity like no other.
Musical reality shows in the past have launched the careers of countless stage stars including — Lee Mead as Joseph in ( Any Dream Will do!) , I’d Do Anything ( Oliver! ) winner Jodie Prenger and Over the Rainbow ( The Wizard of Oz ) winner Danielle Hope.
And of course actor Ben Forster who won the role in Jesus Christ Superstar in ITV's 2012 Superstar series before securing parts in Phantom of the Opera and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Creator and global producer of MAMMA MIA!, Judy Craymer will co-executive produce said the roles of Sophie and Sky are a 'perfect fit' for a TV show' that will seek out new talent for musical theatre.
She explained: “In the lead-up to the celebrations for the stage musical’s 25 th birthday in 2024, we're really looking forward to working with Thames and ITV on this show and involving our well-loved musical as much as possible in the programme."
Throughout the series, musical theatre hopefuls will be put through their paces by industry stars as they navigate their way through challenges, masterclasses, and performances amid the idyllic Greek islands where the original MAMMA MIA! story is set.
The competition will culminate in a live, dazzling grand-finale, broadcast from a theatre in London’s West End, where two winners will take it all and win the roles of Sophie and Sky in the musical.
The film releases of Mamma Mia! The Movie and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again attracted Hollywood A-listers to the roles with a host of stars including Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Amanda Seyfried, Dominic Cooper, Lily James and Cher.
The original story brings the magic of ABBA's pop masterpieces to life in a funny tale of a mother, a daughter and three possible dads on a Greek island idyll.
Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV added: “MAMMA MIA! I Have A Dream is everything we could want in an entertainment show - legendary music, an iconic West End theatre show, high energy performances, and a brand new search for talent, set against the backdrop of a gorgeous island.”
Those looking to apply for the reality show must be over 18 before November 30th 2022 and have the right to work and live in the UK.
