ITV I'm A Celebrity viewers turn on fan-favourite campmate days before final over 'fake' claims

Owen Warner has become one of the fan-favourite stars in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! since stepping foot in the jungle.

The Hollyoaks actor, who got a bit heated with Boy George earlier this week over a banana, has captured the hearts of the nation as he constantly tells viewers how hungry he is. However, it seems the tide might be turning on the I'm A Celebrity favourite as many viewers believe he could be faking his jungle persona.

Owen, 23, is one of the favourite campmates to be crowned winner on Sunday night of the ITV reality show alongside Lioness Jill Scott and former Rugby star Mike Tindall. Viewers took to Reddit to share their theory that Owen could be 'faking' his persona.

Reddit user Lady took to the app and wrote: "When he first entered the camp, he seemed really dim, and innocent and the more hungry he gets, the more he seems to wise-up and make remarks that he previously wouldn't have.

"Does anyone else think this? I mean he is an actor, who went to performing arts school from a young age. It's easily forgotten when you look at him, but realistically he would be more mature than your average 23 year old."

Owen took part in the trial alongside MP Matt Hancock (ITV)

Another user SAP replied: "He could be, I often think that many dumb people on reality TV aren't as dumb as they seem. What has he said that seems wised up though?"

Original poster Lady replied: "Didn't he say today ' that's our health secretary 'when Matt moved the bird poo. He also said, make sure you sing happy birthday twice while washing your hands. He previously claimed he didn't know who Matt was. It just seemed like a very out of place thing for him to say.

"Especially when you go back to the first episodes and some of the silly stuff he was saying."

Owen Warner was left unimpressed with Matt (ITV)

A second Reddit user Scally chimed in: "I dont think he is dumb. To pick up things that have mentioned. So he doesnt follow politics (he did know who Matt was, just not all the other stuff). He misheard a word once and has maybe never had a reason to use it again until now.

"The whole Chris thing is because he has no idea who the man is, lads I work with round the age didnt know Chris either. They have the advantage of being able to google Chris though. I think people forget how many faux pas they would make if they were unable to google something/someone."

A third user agreed: "I don’t think he was ever really playing up being dumb, he didn’t do great in some of the knowledge based trials but he was self aware.

"As for chris calling him gullible he doesn’t know chris and has no reason to not believe him. He knew who matt was but probably didn’t know much about him other then that he was health secretory i think it might be the edit that he’s been given to make him look dumber then he is."

Someone else added: "I don't really understand why people think he's dumb in the first place? Yeah he thought it was jet lack instead of jet lag, but he's also used the word discombobulated correctly. He believed Chris when Chris said he was a pro dancer, but that's not being dumb, that's being trusting. Owen seems pretty intelligent to me."

I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here returns to air on Thursday night at its usual timeslot of 9pm on STV, lasting until 10.20pm.
