ITV Good Morning Britain viewers unimpressed as Richard Madeley asks Lisa Nandy to 'define a woman'

Richard Madeley left Good Morning Britain viewers unimpressed after a "grim" interview with Labour MP Lisa Nandy. The 66-year-old presenter, who returned to the ITV news show this week after two months away, was alongside co-host Susanna Reid as they grilled the politician.

The chat with the Shadow Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities on today's programme (October 12) covered various topics - including Labour MP Sam Tarry, who was ousted in a deselection vote yesterday. But one question in particular from Richard drew the ire of viewers, as reported by Manchester Evening News.

He said: "A very quick question because I'm sure it will get a very brief and concise answer from you because it's an easy question, but Keir Starmer found great difficulty defining what a woman is. Can you define a woman for us?" The MP replied: "Yes, of course.

"A woman is an adult female, but the law also allows for people to go through a transition process to be recognised as women if they've gone through a transgender recognition process. I think that is a decent balance and a sensible way of proceeding and I think it's a much more dignified and humane way to tackle the subject than some of the debate around this has allowed."

But some viewers slammed the hosts for their line of questioning throughout the interview. @DOPreston tweeted: "What is Richard and Susanna going on about? What an absolutely grim interview with Lisa Nandy."

@Jaydee_97 wrote: "I realised Maneskin were going to be on #GMB so I switched it back on, just in time to hear Madeley ask Nandy to define a woman. Pressed the mute button so I could still see but didn't have to listen. Jeez." @CJrpeake posted: "Rees-Mogg. Switching over - but will someone ask how much he has made from the pound crashing? Oh dear, on GMB Richard Madely asking Lisa Nandy to define ‘What is a woman?!' Music it is then #bbcbreakfast #GMB".

@Nevererdofher added: "Richard Madeley asking Lisa Nandy to define a woman, Susanna going on about Sam Tarry being sacked months ago and something about Meghan Markle #GMB @GMB is becoming a farce. People are going to freeze and they’re asking those things?!!"
