Good Morning Britain viewers were left outraged by a guest's comment about refugees this morning (Wednesday, October 26). The remark was made after the show brought on Andrew Pierce to talk about Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his new cabinet, as the journalist and broadcaster shocked viewers when the conversation turned to immigration.
Speaking of the UK's immigration policy, Mr Pierce told the GMB presenters: "We've got to get to grips with these wretched people crossing the channel." As the word 'wretched' has multiple meanings, it is unclear whether the guest intended to describe refugees crossing the channel as wretched meaning unfortunate and sad, or meaning of bad and despicable.
But some viewers at home took his comments to mean the latter, as they flooded Twitter with complaints about the breakfast TV show's guest who they accused of 'straying into hate speech territory'. Appalled viewers flooded Twitter to urge GMB to stop giving him a platform, reports My London.
"Wretched people?" asked one person. Someone else agreed: "Called LEGAL asylum seekers 'wretched people'. Shocking and vile from the Tory poster boy #GMB."
"Tory Boy smiling and calling refugees wretched," tweeted one disbelieving viewer. A fourth person wrote "@toryboypierce just referred to the 'wretched people' crossing the channel," before urging GMB to 'get him off' the show.
A fifth added: "#GMB Mr pierce straying into hate speech territory talking about ‘wretched illegal immigrants’ Why are you giving him a platform to spout this bile." And someone else wrote: "What a nasty b****** @toryboypierce is when he says 'good' about sending migrants to Rwanda @GMB.."
