ITV Good Morning Britain viewers 'cringe' as Richard Madeley makes 'inappropriate' remark to Lioness star Alessia Russo

Good Morning Britain viewers were left 'cringing' as they tuned into the latest show over Richard Madeley's remark to Lioness star Alessia Russo. The presenter was back at the helm of the ITV news programme on Wednesday (August 3) alongside Kate Garraway.

The pair were joined live on the show by the footballer still fresh from the England women's team's historic Euro 2022 win over the weekend. The 23-year-old 'super sub' won the hearts of sports fans with an outrageous backheel goal in England’s semi-final win over Sweden.

She then helped her team storm to victory during Sunday's game as they not only sealed a win but also earned the country's first-ever women's major tournament. Thousands of fans joined in celebrating England’s Euros win with the players in central London event on Monday (August 1).

Richard and Kate were quick to quiz Alessia on how she is feeling following the momentous occasion, the goal that played a part in England's final dreams, and rumours she's set to become the first female footballer to have a transfer fee of more than £1 million. "Those are some sentences that are good to hear aren't they?" Kate, 55, said as Alessia smiled: "Yeah, it's been a whirlwind over the last few days."

She added: "It's such an exciting time tor women's football and to win that trophy at Wembley was amazing." Richard, 66, then asked how Alessia was feeling as 'if he was her dad he'd ask her that'. She replied; "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't exhausted because I am... just from the game. Everything's amazing and so overwhelming. The whole experience of it all, it's just what we've been waiting for in women's football for a long time."

Speaking about the goal that helped send the team through to the final, Richard commented how he thought it was 'the funniest and cheekiest thing' he'd seen in football and that he 'fell off the sofa laughing'. The Manchester United forward said: "I missed the first shot and it got cut back to me and I should have scored. If it didn't end up in the back of the net I would have been annoyed it didn't go in."

She added: "The nutmeg wasn't intentional but it just added to it. I didn't know it had gone through her legs until I watched it back because I didn't even really see it go in the net. I just heard the stadium go and figured it must have gone in some how."

But Richard's earlier comment didn't pass viewers by and they flocked to social media to comment. @SnappingSandwe1 tweeted: "WTF is wrong with @richardm56 he’s saying to Russo, ‘If I were you dad.’ Then saying when she was a ‘kiddywinky,’ Get him off! #cringe #gmb."

@KayFairest said: "There he goes again - you're not their dad #RichardMadeley #gmb." @WillNesbit78 joked: "'If I was your Dad, and asked you that, what would you say?' What is Richard on about?? Richard "who's your daddy" Madeley #GMB @AccidentalP (obviously)." @hkp074 complained: "Richard Madeley just said to Alessia Russo, "how you feeling love"? Good grief! How inappropriate. #GMB @GMB."

And his latest comment to irk fans comes a day after they slammed him for a 'creepy' remark to Alessia's teammate Chloe Kelly. Viewers were stunned when Richard called the Manchester City and England star by his daughter's nickname, as she's also called Chloe.
