ITV Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley 'so sorry' after 'car crash' interview

Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid stepped in to correct Richard Madeley on today's show.

The two broadcasters fronted Monday's edition of the ITV news programme. The two anchored a debate on the music video for Sam Smith's new single, I'm Not Here to Make Friends.

The video has sparked controversy over whether it should have an age warning due to its racy content as Richard explained the footage needed to be edited to be broadcast on ITV. The 66-year-old said: "For the purposes of this debate, let's just carefully read out some of the stuff we didn't show you.

"Men filmed from behind gyrating while wearing leather trousers with the bottom cut out in a heart shape. A shot of him, Sam, spanking and simulating a very specific act with a scantily clad drag queen."

However, Susanna stepped in to correct Richard on his use of pronouns as Sam announced they identified as non-binary in 2019.

She said: "Remember that Sam Smith uses the pronouns, they." Richard issued an apology after Susanna pointed out his error.

He said: "They. Yes, sorry." The two were joined by Shivani Dave and Alex Phillips to discuss the video.

Shivani also identifies with the pronoun "they" and Richard was forced to apologise once again when he referred to the radio presenter as "she". Richard added: "I am so sorry. I will learn to do that."

Viewers following the show on Twitter reacted to the errors .

Hope said: "Richard butchering everyone’s pronouns this morning!"

Anne added: "GO ON @susannareid100 reminding Richard Madeley about Sam's pronouns! And good on Richard Madeley correcting them."
