ITV Good Morning Britain's Alex Beresford 'apologised to everybody' after being scolded over 'disrespectful' error

Alex Beresford returned to Good Morning Britain today after being lambasted over his weather reports from Buckingham Palace. During yesterday's edition of the ITV news programme, Alex appeared on the show live from the London landmark as the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations got underway.

But as he appeared for his latest weather report, hosts Adil Ray and Charlotte Hawkins were soon pointing out his wardrobe choice and GMB viewers were quick to flock to social media to complain about it.

While looking dapper in a buttoned white shirt and grey blazer, he was told by Charlotte: "One thing has been noted about your appearance today Alex." She then added: "It's the lack of a tie. I mean, hello? You're right by Buckingham Palace." Adil jumped in to agree with Charlotte and asked him: "I mean come on. Where's the tie?"

Alex said he would go and find a tie to wear after saying "Off with his head. I'm so sorry. If her Majesty is watching - I'm so sorry." Bute the weather presenter was branded 'disrespectful' for the move.

@AArusty fumed: "@GMB It’s a shame Alex can’t show some respect and wear a tie while standing in front of the palace. The queen is an example of respect and dignity and he turns up on such an occasion looking like he’s been out all night on the drink." @jazzyjellojane said: "Disgraceful that Alex is not wearing a tie. Please make this right as he is not dressed correctly."

During his return to the programme on Friday, Alex's 'faux paus' was once again addressed, as he wore a bright red tie, as he issued a message directly to the Queen. Host Ranvir Singh said: "What can also catch you out is attire, when indeed doing forecasts. Now Alex is here with us this morning."

Adil added: "[He was] all over the national newspapers this morning, he became a national story," as Ranvir called it a "scandal". Adil continued: "On the day of the beginning of the Jubilee, Alex goes onto national TV and decides not to wear a tie. Alex you're developing a bit of a reputation as a bit of a rebel in so many ways. What was all that about yesterday?"

Alex told them: "I just decided not to wear a tie and I'm so sorry. I tell you what, when I came in this morning and Her Majesty was in the studio, I thought it was to take me to the Tower of London. I've turned up with a tie this morning so Your Majesty, if you are watching from bed I do hope you are happy with this tie and this cheeky little pocket square I put together just for you this morning."

Alex was then asked about the moment again and he issued a further apology before confessing that it wasn't just The Queen who he needed to say sorry to. Introducing Alex, Ranvir said: "Now let's take a look at the weather with Alex, who's made his way onto the roof here at Television Centre, probably to get away from the glare of Her Majesty after your faux pas yesterday Alex."

Alex told them: "I know, I've been sent onto the roof. I'm in the bad books but not just with Her Majesty actually. I must say sorry to my auntie Jan in Bristol because she was the first to message me yesterday at five minutes past six. She was furious that I wasn't wearing a tie outside Buckingham Palace. So I'm sincerely sorry, I think I've said sorry to just about everybody that I can say sorry to."
