Good Morning Britain underwent another shake-up as a star of the latest series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here joined the team. Scarlette Douglas appeared live on the ITV news programme on Wednesday (December 28) as it returned to air after a brief Christmas break.
Charlotte Hawkins and Robert Rinder were back at the helm of GMB while Scarlette replaced the show's entertainment editor Richard Arnold to bring viewers the latest showbiz news. The A Place In The Sun host already confirmed that she was taking over the segment earlier this month.
Revealing the news via an Instagram Story, the 35-year-old sahred how she would be standing in for long-running presenter Richard as he takes a break during the festive season. "I probably shouldn't have told you just yet in case they decide they don't want me anymore," she joked in the post.
"But yes, I am going to be covering for the legend that is Richard Arnold on GMB, the Entertainment section, Good Morning Britain. I'm actually going to be covering over the festive period. Mind Blown!"
Among the stories she was discussing during her first stint as the show's entertainment correspondent were the rumours that Strictly Come Dancing bosses are planning to sign a celebrity couple to compete against each other for the first time in the show's history. The first suggestion was former politician and Scarlette's fellow I'm A Celeb campmate Matt Hancock who could sign up with partner Gina Coladangelo.
"Matt is no stranger to showing off his dance moves as I personally saw in the jungle," she said before joking: "I wish I could unsee those!" She then added: "So I'm sure he would not disappoint on the dance floor," before Charlotte chipped in: "Yeah inflict that on the rest of the nation, why not?"
But Scarlette's appearance on GMB isn't the only change the show will see this week as ITV bosses confirmed on Tuesday that broadcaster Gordon Smart will be making his presenting debut on the programme on Thursday (December 29) before returning for a second episode on Friday (December 30).
Gordon, who has become a familiar figure in the world of broadcasting, regularly hosting afternoon shows on talkSPORT and BBC Radio Scotland, his own evening show on Radio X and Weekend Breakfast on BBC Radio 5 Live, will join Charlotte as the main host for the remaining shows of 2022.
But it appears fans are already happy with the current setup. @TheNanStevens tweeted: "@GMB What a pleasure it is to see #ScarletteDouglas on #GMB. She’s so lovely - and very good at her job. Same with #RobRinder and #Charlotte. A great team this morning."
@missrubble commented: "Love watching Rob & Charlotte. Both very calm, polite and respectful. Let’s hope those who find is necessary to scream at guests each morning are replaced. #GMB." @LadyBond added: "Can you both stay.. for good. Been a while since #GMB gave us healthy balanced rational debates, great team."
However, some found themselves 'going back to bed' to avoid the show after another intense debate. Charlotte and ROb were joined on the show by Mark Wallace and Jemma Forte as they discussed the increasing levels of unsolved crime and the reasons behind the concerning figures.
The group went on to debate the ongoing strike action across different sectors in the UK and it appears to all became too much who had tuned into the episode of GMB. @Dogstrustjoey said: "#GMB oh dear @GMB shouty lady is making my ears bleed… fancied some news #turnedoff get better guests!!!!" @paulclift01 added: "Good grief, those two 'political commentators' on #GMB this morning are no better than pub gossips! Back to bed for me!"
