ITV Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley slammed as he agrees with Tory MP

Richard Madeley has faced a furious backlash over comments he made on today's ITV Good Morning Britain. The host was hit with complaints after he seemingly agreed with a Conservative MP who told people to get better jobs or more hours if they are struggling with the cost of living crisis.

Richard said: “Do you think that she has got a point? That we are too quick as a society, largely because of social media to jump on the heads of people who re going into areas that are controversial but some people say need saying.

“In other words ‘god helps people who helps themselves’. It’s an old saying but it has a degree of wisdom to it, hasn’t it?”

Richard may have thought he was being reasonable, but his comments sent fans of the show on Twitter into a rage.

One user, Jake, said: "Richard Madeley has literally just said on @GMB "God helps those who help themselves." in relation to cost of living crisis. So all those people doing their best across Britain to keep heads above water can expect a cheque in the post off God to cover 54% increase in energy costs."

J added: "Honestly, Richard Madeley needs to reconsider his words or perhaps think about his usefulness on GMB. Using the “God helps those who help themselves” is particularly shortsighted in current circumstances. Or is he suggesting we pray for more money and a better quality of life?"

Sean remarked: "'God helps those who help themselves' wtf is Madeley on! Really? That will be such a comfort to all those struggling to eat/heat. Idiot."

ITV Good Morning Britain continues to air each and every weekday from 6am.
