ITV GMB viewers switch off over Richard Madeley's comments on Boris Johnson

Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley came under fire for comments made on the morning news programme.

The 65-year-old broadcaster fronted Monday's edition of the ITV news programme alongside Susanna Reid (February 7).

It was the first time the I'm A Celebrity contestant had anchored the show for two weeks and he opened the programme with a scathing criticism of the government.

Speaking on the show, he said: "I should really be saying welcome to Groundhog Day. Who's in charge? I mean, nothing has changed.

"Is Boris going to last the week? Are there any more parties to talk about? Is it all Carrie's fault? This is where I left the room two weeks ago."

The broadcasters continued to cover the situation at No.10 as they interviewed Health Secretary Sajid Javid later on in the programme, Liverpool Echo reports.

However, viewers following the show on Twitter took to the social media platform to criticise the anchor for referring to the Prime Minister by his first name.

Marian said: "Stop calling #BorisJohnsonOut14 just Boris like he’s your mate Richard Madeley"

Andy added: "This is becoming a comedy show now. Starring Richard, how many times can I say ‘Boris ‘ in 30 seconds"

Lucy commented : "Put #GMB on for 10 minutes while getting ready for work and Richard Madeley’s constant reference to “Boris” (6 times now and counting) in every discussion from football to Jackie Weaver, as if he’s a mate from down the pub, is really grating on me."

@Sunderlandlolly posted: "OFF SWITCH! Richard Madeley is back on @GMB chatting about "Boris" this "Boris" that. Then everyone joins in about "Boris", like they're his mate"

Stephen tweeted: "Turned over to Sky now."

@ProudGranny24 responded: "I have also turned over to #KayBurley Had enough of Richard Madeley and #GMB #GoodBoringBritain ‘Carrie and Boris fight back’ Vomit inducing"

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and the ITV Hub.
