ITV GMB: Martin Lewis forced off air by technical blunder while issuing energy bills advice

Good Morning Britain suffered a technical blunder that momentarily forced Martin Lewis off air while he was discussing the government's energy bills support U-turn. During today's (Oct 18) instalment of the ITV breakfast show, hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley were joined by the Money Saving Expert founder to answer questions about Jeremy Hunt's latest plans.

The financial guru told viewers that under new plans revealed by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt yesterday (Oct 17), the price cap freeze put in place last month by Liz Truss will now be axed in April, despite being due to last for two years. He went on to talk about in detail what this means for homeowners and how much they can expect to pay next month.

In accordance to predictions made by independent energy research company Cornwall Insight, Martin said that energy bills are forecast to rise 73 per cent on average in 2023. Meaning typical energy use could well cost homeowners from £2,500 to £4,350 a year from April.

As Martin then began issuing important advice on what sort of help may become available to those struggling financially, the screen suddenly went black and a cough could be heard during the blunder.

"I'd be looking at going back to something Rishi Sunak did in last May, I suspect that's the template." He began. "That's when we got the £400 winter electricity payment, we got the £150 for people with disabilities, that was a £650 payment for those on benefits and Universal Credit and there was a payment for State Pensioners too.

"When you look at energy bills for typical use, around the £4,300 level, you-" Martin said right before a black lines flashes across his screen and things go dark.

The camera then quickly pans back to Susanna and Richard as they appear visibly worried by the technical problem. "Oh no, we can't lose Martin Lewis, we have to protect him at all costs," Susanna says.

Fortunately, viewers didn't have to wait long as Martin quickly reappears on screen with a "hello" and continues on with his advice.
