Lucy Pargeter has sent a message to Emmerdale fans as they continue to complain about her character. The actress is best known for playing Chas Dingle in the ITV soap, a role she has held for 20 years. In recent weeks and months, viewers have come to despair over Chas' actions in the village.
Last month, Emmerdale fans were left furious at Chas as she lashed out at her family and ran back into Al Chapman's arms. Viewers are well aware that the character, played by Lucy Pargeter, has been having a sordid affair with her former enemy behind her husband Paddy's back.
Belle Dingle was the first to catch out the pair earlier this year but kept quiet when Chas agreed to stay away for Al. But she didn't stick to her word and following his return to the village last month, Chas' son Aaron then discovered her sordid secret and again, she made a vow to end things.
But again, she didn't and she planned to run away with her secret man following her mum's funeral. Discovering that she was still seeing Al, Aaron headed back to Italy, disgusted with his mum and warned that her actions will end up blowing up her face and that it'll be Paddy he supports.
However, in scenes aired last week, her relationship with Al was taking out of her control as Cain discovered his sister's affair and after luring Al to a barn, the latter ended up dead. Cain threatened Al with a shotgun.
The pair then broke into fisticuffs and in a scuffle for the gun, a shot rang out and it was later revealed that it was Al who had been fatally shot, leading to actor Michael Wildman's exit from the soap. But at the end of last week, after pleading guilty to murder, Cain admitted to wife Moira that he didn't kill Al - and that it was his son Kyle.
And during Monday night's trip to the Dales, flashback scenes showed the moment the 10-year-old, played by Huey Quinn, shot Al. Kyle and Cain both relived the events of that day, with Cain telling a distressed Moira, while Kyle, back at home, confessed to his mum Amy.
Meanwhile, Chas is trying to hide her grief by supporting Al's partner, Kerry. But fans have been sharing how they think Chas is to blame for the mess due to her affair with Al. And after some said the soap should 'get rid' of the character, Lucy, who plays Chas, spoke out.
Writing a note on Twitter, the soap star penned: "Just a little thank you from me and my @emmerdale family. Thank you for watching , enjoying and being so involved and invested in the stories we tell….
"And judging from many of your comments about Chas at the moment, I’d say it’s done what we strive to do get you talking." And fans were quick to praise her for her portrayal, recognising that Lucy's acting skills are paying off.
@AudreyW1805 replied: "Oh, you’re a hated woman at the moment!! But, that shows how good you are at your job!! Please go back to being nice Chas though!!" @kelwell16 wrote: "Yes many of us hate Chas because you are playing your part so well Lucy. Well done." @aston1970ap added: "Chas is not being nice at the moment. Poor Paddy. But well done Lucy. Ur smashing it. Love #Emmerdale."
