Emmerdale stars Natalie J Robb and Natalie Ann Jamieson have opened up about their on-screen family as they are pushed to the forefront of the ITV soap. The actresses, who are best known to fans for playing Moira Dingle and Amy Wyatt, cheekily revealed the 'tearaway' among the group as they heaped praise on their young co-stars.
The pair are currently at the centre of one of Emmerdale's biggest storylines as they keep a killer secret. As viewers know, Cain is currently banged up for a crime he didn't commit after taking the wrap for his son, Kyle. Viewers were initially led to believe that Cain, played by Jeff Hordley, had killed his former enemy in cold blood after discovering his affair with his younger sister, Chas.
However, a flashback episode later revealed that 10-year-old Kyle, played by Huey Quinn, was the one who really shot Al when the panicked youngster caught the pair fighting and feared for his dad. Cain was quick to take the blame for his son but Kyle has since been struggling with keeping his actions a secret.
Amy did decide to run away with Kyle, with Moira and Cain's other young son, Isaac, joining them a short time later. However, Moira's elder son, Matty, discovered the truth and demanded they all return to the village. The family are now hiding Kyle's big secret - for now - and there's more drama for the Dingle clan - and those associated closely with the family - as Chas' affair with Al has now been exposed and Cain and Chas' long-lost brother has arrived.
Speaking at a press day ahead of the Christmas episodes earlier this month, both Natalie's were full of praise for Huey, who took over the role of Kyle in 2013, and his on-screen half-brother Isaac, played by Bobby Dunsmuir. "He's been amazing," Natalie Ann said of Huey to which Natalie echoed: "He's been fantastic."
Natalie Ann went on: "When he was first given the storyline, he had a bit of tuition alongside it to help him move from doing what the children usually do, which is pop in and out, to having something big that was demanding a lot from him. But he just eased into it so well and now he tells us what to do."
She added: "And that's the way I like it, to be honest." Natalie then shared: "He always knows our lines as well, it's really annoying! But because he's growing up now, he does genuinely have a love for it [acting]. He watches through the cameras lens and he's getting an eye for it in different ways and it's really lovely to see.
Natalie Ann, who took over the role of Amy in 2019 from previous actress Chelsea Halfpenny, chipped in: "He knows where the cameras are and when he has to be serious or when he can be a little bit naughty which, again, is fantastic."
Moria star Natalie, who joined the soap in 2009, also shared: "He's also a really good on-screen big brother to Bobby because Bobby is a wee menace. You get a timeline with Bobby... he's a tearaway and running all over the place. But he [Huey] is really good at keeping him in tow. And they're giving him lines now."
Natalia Ann added: "The two of them on set... it's such a joy. We're really lucky. But because Huey watched the show now he's getting a bit older, he has an impression of pretty much all of us." Natalie also remembered from a previous storyline in which her character had an affair "I always remember when he [Huey] went, 'I saw you last night,' and I went, 'what do you mean you saw me last night?' and he went, 'with Nate!' And I said, 'You shouldn't be watching that!'"
