Emmerdale star Amelia Flanagan has back her younger sister Isabella to win big at an annual awards ceremony this year after they have both been nominated for the same award. The teen actress is best known for playing April Windsor in the ITV soap, the daughter of Marlon Dingle and the late Donna Windsor.
Amelia 14, joined Emmerdale in 2014 and instantly became a hit among viewers - even winning three awards in the space of a year at the Inside Soap Awards and The British Soap Awards. But now she's up against Isabella, who plays Coronation Street's troublesome child Hope Stape, at the Inside Soap Awards 2022.
The two sisters, who also have a famous brother William who plays Joseph Brown in Corrie, are both up for the Best Young Performer award. Amelia's Emmerdale co-star Gabrielle Dowling, who plays Cathy Hope, is also nominated for thegong as well as Isabella's Corrie co-star Jude Riordan, who plays Sam Blakeman.
Talking about the nomination to Inside Soap, Amelia said: "It’s surreal that all three of us have ended up in soaps! I’m up against Bella for an award for the first time, and as much as I’d love to win, I really hope my sister gets it!"
And while the teen admits she's "Team Emmerdale" and her siblings are "Team Corrie", it is "never competitive". She sweetly added: "I’ve run lines with Bella where she’s played Hope and I’ve pretended to be a character from Coronation Street, and she’s done the same with me, so it’s fun!"
Meanwhile, the siblings' dad Chris Flanagan praised previously shared his pride for his two daughter for their incredible nominations after both being part of huge storyline on their respective soaps. The pair couldn't look more alike as their dad Chris posted a photo of them together.
Isabella, 11, smiled for the camera as she appeared to have been interrupted from tucking into a bowl of fruit while her older sister Amelia, looking different to her ITV soap character thanks to her donning a pair of dark-rimmed glasses, put a loving and protective arm around her younger sister.
Their father Chris posted the image to social media and told his Twitter followers: "Really chuffed that the girls and so many of their friends and on-screen family are on the long list for the @InsideSoapMag awards." He added: "Whether you’re team @itvcorrie or @emmerdale you can cast your votes now!"
Amelia's Emmerdale co-star Karen Blick, who plays Lydia Dingle in the Leeds-based soap, quickly replied to Chris' post to share her praise for the girls, writing: "Yes I saw! Well done both, you must so proud!" And fans were quick to follow suit and share their support.
