Five of Emmerdale's very own leading ladies couldn't look further away from their characters after undergoing a 70s-inspirded makeover. Jessie Elland, Rosie Bentham, Katie Hill, Daisy Campbell and Karene Peter stepped back in time with a stylised photoshoot to mark the ITV soap's upcoming anniversary.
The soap actresses donned vintage-style outfits to pay homage to 1972, the year Emmerdale first aired. This Sunday, October 16, Emmerdale will air a special hour-long episode on what will mark its 50th anniversary on air. But don't be expecting cake and celebrations as its all high-drama and leading to possible exits.
It was revealed back in August that the fictional Yorkshire village of Emmerdale will never be the same again after this month as a wind storm shakes up life in the Dales for every single resident. And Kim Tate and Will Taylor's wedding will kickstart all the drama that's to come this weekend.
And last week Jane Hudson, Emmerdale's Executive Producer, has now revealed a little bit more about what's to come and appears to have confirmed a first in the show's five-decade history - a cow stampede. Jane also revealed that the natural disaster will test not only the much-loved characters' physical strength but also their mental capabilities.
Speaking about the stunt week she said it's "a rollercoaster of emotions, and there is a visual impact that will blow more than your socks off, put it that way." She went on: "There's death, there's destruction but also real moments of intimacy, heartbreak and love. We're gonna see our characters tested not just by their physical strength, but their emotional strength as well. There’s gonna be a lot of tears, I must warn you about that, and we're gonna see our community have to deal with the aftermath of this horrific storm."
But the brand new photo of Jessie, Rosie, Katie, Daisy and Karene couldn't have been more different to what their characters are about to face in the soap's upcoming episodes. Talking about the day of the shoot, Jessie, who plays determined Chloe Harris said: "I absolutely loved the shoot. It was so great to see everyone all together in the outfits and dance around to some 70s music.
"All the girls have been doing such an amazing job on screen, so it was great to get to celebrate with them during this shoot!" Rosie, who is known for playing the ambitious Gabby Thomas added: "Doing this shoot was so much fun for everyone involved. Choosing the outfits and getting all made up, really got us all excited for the 50th celebrations.
"There’s so much exciting stuff going on in the anniversary episodes, and it was nice to play around with costume and makeup to feel proper 70s vibes - with some tunes on too! I’m so lucky to be involved in such an exciting, and a huge moment in history, for Emmerdale."
Meanwhile, Katy, whose character Sarah Sugden has had her fair share of drama throughout the years, commented: "It's been great fun being in the show during its 50th anniversary! Not only seeing all the exciting storylines that are going on, but also having the opportunity to do this fun 70s-themed photoshoot. We had a great time on the day getting our hair and makeup done 70s style, and the costumes were so cool. It was lots of fun jumping back in time for the day."
Daisy, who plays pregnant Amelia Spencer and is central to the upcoming 50th drama, said: "I’ve been wearing a pregnancy bump for the last few months so it was great to glam up. It’s such an honour to be a part of Emmerdale’s 50 years. I feel unbelievably lucky. It was such a great day on the shoot especially as I got to share it with these four amazing ladies. It was super cool and the costumes and make-up were unbelievable. Everyone put so much effort into it. I really feel like I was meant to be part of that era!”
And Karene, burst onto our screens earlier this year as feisty Naomi Walters, shared: "We all had a great time on this shoot. Playing dress up as an adult can’t ever not be fun, really. We got some amazing photos and it’s such an epic time to have joined the show, at such a pinnacle moment in its history!"
