Emmerdale has confirmed that Cain Dingle is set to get a blast from the past this Christmas as his long-lost brother makes an appearance. The ITV soap character is currently looking at spending the festive season behind bars after he pleaded guilty to the murder of Al Chapman.
Earlier this month Cain, played by Jeff Hordley, saw red when he discovered his sister Chas was having an affair with former enemy Al during their mother, Faith's, wake. He used Chas' secret phone to lure Al to a barn where he threatened him with a shotgun. The pair broke into fisticuffs and in a scuffle for the gun, a shot rang out.
While the finger of blame was, of course, pointed at Cain it was later revealed that it was Al, played by Michael Wildman, had actually been fatally shot by Cain's son, Kyle. A flashback scene showed the moment the 10-year-old, played by Huey Quinn, shot Al after he picked up the weapon to stop his dad from getting hurt.

After Cain pleaded guilty to murder, he told Moira the truth. Meanwhile, Kyle was confessing all to his mum, Amy Wyatt. Amy has since fled to village with her son and last week, Moira followed with her and Cain's son, Isaac, in tow. Meanwhile, back in the village, Chloe Harris has accused Moria of having an affair with Al, making that the reason Cain 'shot him'.
But in the next few week there will be a surprise in store for Cain when his long lost brother Caleb turns up unannounced. However, it’s far from a happy festive reunion as Caleb has lots of difficult questions he wants Cain to answer.
Caleb’s arrival is set to make things even worse between warring siblings, Cain and Chas, portrayed by Lucy Pargeter, when it becomes clear that Cain has kept Caleb’s existence a secret from her since they were teenagers.
Acclaimed actor Will Ash who will be joining the Dingle family this Christmas, playing Caleb Miligan, a well-connected, successful businessman. And Emmerdale fans will no doubt recognise him.
He has a variety of television and film credits to his name, but viewers will probably most remember him for playing the roles of Christopher Mead in BBC school drama Waterloo Road and Steve Robinson in Clocking Off. And Will just happens to have a family member in Coronation Street.
Peter Ash plays Paul Foreman in Corrie. He was first introduced to viewers when he shared a prison cell with David Platt back in May 2018. Then a few months later in, January 2019, he arrived in Weatherfield looking for his sister, Gemma Winter. But Peter is Will's cousin and Will even had a role in the Salford-based soap as Spike, aged 10.
Speaking of joining Emmerdale, Will said: "I’m thrilled to be joining such an iconic show. Emmerdale is packed full of fantastic actors and I'm really looking forward to working alongside them. Caleb is a fantastically complex character and I can’t wait to get stuck in."
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw added: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Will Ash to the Village. It's fantastic to have such a high calibre and immensely talented actor join our wonderful team. Arriving on screen on Christmas Day, Caleb has to undoubtedly be the most unexpected and shocking Christmas gift Cain and Chas have ever received!
"Calm and in control, rich and successful, at first glance Caleb is everything his brother isn't, but will the pair find they have more in common than they thought? What secrets from the past will come back to haunt them and how will the rest of the family react when Caleb strolls into town? His arrival certainly promises to shake things up for the Dingles and make 2023 start off with a huge bang!"
